Quote with my little story
'If you think you can, you may; If you think you can't, you won't . . .'
Back in 1998 while i was playing cricket (i wasn't good at it), we needed 37 runs to win and i was the only one left. I always went last (for layman: best batsman bats first while the worst bats last in non professional games). I was afraid because our opponents were among the best and they bowled fast. I had already faced 1 ball and i couldn't even connect it with my bat and it was the last bowl of the over. I was really nervous to see my team who were watching me from the other side of the field while some were already off to shop for some cold drinks. I think they had in mind that we already had lost.
I took my time before the bowler bowled the new over. In my left side were trees and behind it the football stadium of my hometown. I could hear the referee blow whistle while some runners running in the track. I watched them run and put more effort every lap. They wanted to get in the British Army and were training for that purpose. Not everyone has the same build but neither did anyone gave up home, why should i. I had the bat in my hand and courage to face them.
I thought well if i think i can't face those bowlers, i would be out in no time, but if i think i could and i tried, i might be able to get some runs and lose making the game close or probably even win. I just concentrated on the game and my opponent and really didn't give a crap what my teammates well telling me to do. I played my own way and got some runs. Eventually they started to cheer when i scored few runs and my opponents started to fell stressed. They thought they already had the game in their hand and were confident about it because they had seen me bat before. I sticked to this thinking 'If you think you can, you may; If you think you can't, you won't'. We won with 4 delivery left and i had a smile in my face. My captain was happy that we won the bet and made few bucks but i was happy for believing in myself . . .
P.S. I wrote this because its a tense time me for my masters dissertation and all of the sudden this popped in my head. I was trying to find whose quote it is because i made it up myself, but who knows if it has already been there somewhere written by other author. I wasn't able to find it, but i found this beautiful poem which i will share in my next post. :)
