Organizational culture: A Ritz-Carlton Experience

Image
1.0 INTRODUCTION 1.1 CULTURE Culture has become one of the main areas of discussion in an organisation but there is no agreement on appropriate definition of culture. Culture may be understood as ‘The way we do things around here’ or ‘the way we think about things around here’ (Williams et al ., 1994). Culture comprise of at least four sub concepts: values, beliefs, norms and symbols (Jepperson and Swidler, 1994). Culture is a multi faceted concept and it is difficult to tell which components are most important for understanding organisation performance (Detert et al. , 2003 ). 1.2 ORGANISATION CULTURE ‘The collection of traditions, values, policies, beliefs, and attitudes that constitute a pervasive context for everything we do and think in an organisation’ (Mclean and Marshall, 1993 cited in Mullins, 2002). Organisations can have a culture if it has been a stable group for some period of time (Schein, 1988). Schein (1988) suggested three level of organisation ...

To remove Vista Smart Security from your system

It gets into your system with the help of Trojans , which is an antispyware program. It detects infection (well when I looked at it, it seemed fake to me) and for removing them, it ask you to purchase the full licensed version (basically a scam). It begins running everytime you boot the system and you cannot remove it from the add/remove program. Well at least in mine, It didn’t appear there. It’s really irritating as everytime you are doing sometime it interrupts you. Well here is the way how you can remove it (worked for me and I hope it works for you guys too). 1) Open a notepad in your desktop 2) Copy the text below into the notepad Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\.exe] [-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\secfile] [-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\secfile] [-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.exe\shell\open\command] [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\exefile\shell\open\command] @="\"%1\" %*" [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.exe] @="exefile" ...

The CALDER-MOIR IT Governance Framework

IT governance is aligning the IT strategy of an organization with its overall strategy so that it meets its goal and objective (Wallace and Webber, 2009). IT governance inherits characteristic from corporate governance and IT management to ensure transparency of management and control of IT assets through corporate governance and effective management of IT resources and efficiency through the IT management (Carter-Steel, 2009). For the successful implementation of an IT Governance framework three elements are essential: structures, processes and mechanism. Structure defines roles and responsibilities of committees of IT planning and operation. Process is the strategic planning of IT system and management of monitoring, control and process definition tools such as ITIL. Mechanism defines the relationship between IT and business. The specific combination of structure processes and mechanism is the IT Governance framework (Fernández and Llorens, n.d.). There are many frameworks and ...

Quality and Quality Gurus

What is quality and why is it important? This question has been asked for many decades and people have their own perceptions on this topic. Everyday people search for a better quality product/services (Czuchry et al., 1999). For a business to be competitive, they must provide the best quality to its customer. So the important thing for a company is to know how they can make and provide the best quality. There are different theories that have been proposed by the gurus for the quality improvement but till today there is no unified theory (Foster, 2004). Armand Feigenbaum is one of the leading contributors to the Quality Theory. He argues that the quality should not only be only considered in the production line but the whole company operating work structure should be committed in improving quality and strive for continuous commitment (Huggins, 1998). Feigenbaum stresses quality to be a total life cycle consideration that cannot be achieved all of a sudden because it is a constant gr...

Service and the Characteristics of Service: Intangibility, Inseparability, Variability and Perishability.

Although the services provided by an organization are very diverse, they have accounted for the performance of the organization (Kotler and Keller, 2007). There have been an increasing number in organizations that are selling services (Rotfeld, 2001). Since the early 1980’s, various author have recommended different service types based on different criterion (Chowdhary and Prakash, 2007). Kotler and Keller (2007) defined service as ‘any activity or benefit that one party can offer to another which is essentially intangible and does not result in the ownership of anything.’ Edvardsson (1998) suggest service to be viewed from the customer perspective as it is them who determines of the quality of the service provided. Service is very important in today context as it is the key for attracting new customers and retaining of existing ones. Bad service experience forces customers to switch the brand or the service provider in search for the one who provides them with satisfaction (Michel e...
